Held historical faces


OHC_2414 — typed Contents face.
Direct face states:

It describes a list of captains followed by Indians owning farms in Mississippi and says: “All pages were filmed regardless of degree of legibility.”


OHC_2415 — separate handwritten cover face, stamped 24324.
Direct face states “Copy of American State Papers. Public Lands. Vol 7.” and gives the session span, “Commencing April 11th 1834 and ending March 3rd 1835,” then “Beginning at Page 38 and running to Page 139 inclusive.”


Documentary-identity finding
The held Public Lands run is not source-safely described simply as “the original American State Papers volume” or “the original 1830 manuscript.” Its own frontmatter identifies the packet as a COPY and the typed contents face independently records a FILMING layer. The safe held-object description is therefore: a digital representation of filmed archival faces in CTN 1 / Document 24324, whose frontmatter identifies the contained body as a copy of American State Papers, Public Lands, Volume 7. Whether each interior face is itself an original manuscript, a contemporary copy, a later copy, or another reproduction state remains open until independently controlled.

Correction history
Earlier workshop derivative notes correctly captured most wording but described OHC_2415 as a typed contents/title cover. Direct rendering shows OHC_2415 is handwritten. OHC_2414 is the typed Contents face. This jacket supersedes that form-description drift while preserving the derivative notes as prior readings.


Flare consequence
For Glean’s Public Lands / Emancipation flare, occurrence counts, role labels, white/Black/slave annotations, family counts, and acreage observations must be cited to the specific interior face while preserving this upstream representation boundary. A repeated Drive object does not add a witness. A statement appearing in the filmed copy is evidence of what the held copy shows; it is not, by itself, proof that the exact wording survives unchanged from an independently controlled original.

• This jacket does not identify the date or maker of the copy.
• It does not establish whether OHC_2414 was created by the archive, the filmer, or another custodian.
• It does not establish the physical medium or generation number of the copy behind the film.
