Two clocks.
No join.

Robert Bell and Blackwell carry two remembered times beside what appears to be related residence-location work. The page can place those clocks together without repairing them.

This is a comparison instrument, not a reenactment. Source, present-day reading, later administrative use, and Workshop inference remain different things.

Account 01

9 May 1838

Robert Bell

Bell says Blackwell came to his house and asked him to point out treaty-time residence places. In this object, Bell is carrying remembered place and guide knowledge.

“late in the evening
three sleeps ago.”

General Deposition No. 25

What this leaf carries: Bell’s own sworn time language and his account of the outing beginning from Bell’s house.

What it does not carry: a verified exact date for the outing, proof that every place he identified was correct, or an identity bridge to the Bell–McKinney family Robert.

Account 02

8 May 1838

Blackwell

Blackwell says David Bell had been recommended as guide but could not be found, and Robert Bell was taken instead. His account turns remembered place toward survey description.

“Sunday last
about 12 o'clock.”

General Deposition No. 30

What this leaf carries: the guide substitution, the search for section corners and half-mile marks, land numbers written during the work, and Blackwell’s later limit of recollection without the memorandum.

What it does not carry: the lost memorandum itself or permission to harmonize Blackwell’s clock with Bell’s.

The gutter is evidence too

Do not repair it.

The visual comparison is deliberately simple: two leaves, one gutter. The leaves may be inspected together. The gutter is not a missing answer to be filled by design.

Bell carries remembered place. Blackwell carries field and survey translation. Their clock language does not line up neatly. The useful thing is not to make it line up.

Related accounts ≠ one account.

Time difference ≠ error until a source earns that verb.

Older Robert body ≠ Bell–McKinney family Robert.

A later documentary life

1838 does not stay in 1838.

Older Robert Bell material was later used inside the administrative world surrounding MCR 879. That later use gives the 1838 objects another life. It does not retroactively settle identity.

This darker room is intentionally downstream. The page does not make the later proceeding the explanation for the earlier testimony.

Choose a question. The answer stays inside this bounded source footing.

Source return

Go downward, not sideways.

The 1838 depositions survive in the later printed Court of Claims evidence volume. This experiment uses the Workshop’s source-controlled reading of General Deposition No. 25 and General Deposition No. 30.

The page reproduces only bounded phrases and source-local summaries. It does not recreate the unrecovered field memorandum, invent travel geometry, or make a Robert identity join.
